The Oculy is designed after the eye. Karth eyes are full visible light spectrum, seeing infra and ultraviolet light, and some get body mods(as are common) to see into radio wave frequencies. There is no difference between the body and mods, so every Karth is fairly modded. This culminated in the Oculy. A massive metal sphere, 'Crewed' by a single Karth. However, this sphere is not simply crewed as another ship would be. The pilot's body is modded and altered until it is substantial enough for space flight. The 'ship' travels remarkably fast and has a primary camera as well as full 360 degree viewing of all surroundings.
The brain of the original Karth grows substantially to parse all of the information, and the process of undoing it is incredibly scarring for the brain of the individual, but hardly any Oculy ever choose to go back, seeing this way of experiencing the universe directly as a path to some kind of scientific enlightenment. Having your body turned into a building/vehicle is an ancient practice for the Karths, one treated as a great honor for the one being altered.
A sphere of metal, lenses dot its surface with a massive eye at the front. A living thing, this Karth had its body modded into a device that can learn everything about the universe that it travels in.
