The Karthenonian way of traveling faster than light is lowering the Hume level of the ship and the surrounding space, decreasing the laws of physics and allowing them to increase the speed of light within a radius surrounding their ship, as well as effect the energy efficiency of their propulsion. The lower the Hume level, the faster the ship, so by enhancing the engines you improve how low of a Hume level the engines can operate at.
